COMPOST PROCEDURE
The compost pickup procedure has been modified to allow the curbside crew to handle the large Home Depot/Lowes type paper bags, where excessive leaves are concerned. The crew will either dump the leaves from the bags directly into the compost truck and leave the bags stacked and placed under the homeowners compost buckets or the crew will take the bags away. The crew will first pass through the neighborhood collecting all normal amounts of buckets and paper bags, then pass again collecting all normal piles of brush. Then finally will return to any noted high volume area a the end of the shift.
Plastic bags are prohibitive because the labor to handle them dramatically increases the overall cost of the program and the plastic bags contaminate the compost, litter the facility, and at times get caught in the screening equipment causing excessive damage.
